Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, City of East Peoria offices will operate on an altered schedule. City offices will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, as well as Friday, Nov. 27. There will be no residential garbage or curbside recycling collection on Nov. 26. Service will resume Nov. 27 and continue through Saturday, Nov. 28. 

Low-income East Peoria residents can have a nice holiday meal through the East Peoria Youth Council's Christmas Food Basket Program. Application deadline is Nov. 25.

Deck the halls, windows, roof, fence and lamp post, and enter the Christmas Splendor outdoor holiday decorating contest, sponsored by the East Peoria Beautification Commission. Entry deadline is Dec. 4.

To ensure child car seats are properly installed in vehicles, the East Peoria Fire Department will conduct free car seat checks from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Central Fire Station, 201 W. Washington St.

Open burning of dry leaves and other landscape waste is allowed in East Peoria through Nov. 30. There are several requirements which must be met when conducting a burn.
