Nominating papers for City Council election available at City Hall

Nominating petitions and supporting documents for the April 2, 2019 consolidated election are available at the City Clerk's Office at East Peoria City Hall, 401 W. Washington St. Nominating petitions can be circulated starting Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Positions open in the election are mayor and four city commissioner seats. All the positions are for four-year terms. The nominating petitions and documents will be available through Dec. 17.

All petitions and supporting documents must be filed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Dec. 10-17. They can be filed at the City Clerk's Office or mailed to: Office of the City Clerk, East Peoria City Hall, 401 ... Full Story

Public comments being accepted about sanitary sewer system upgrade project

The City of East Peoria and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency will accept written public comments about the city's sanitary sewer system upgrade project through 5 p.m. Oct. 19. Members of the public and ratepayers can comment on the IEPA Project Summary and Preliminary Environmental Impacts Determination (PEID). The sanitary sewer system upgrade project will repair, replace and modify facilities to address aged and deteriorated infrastructure that is operating beyond its service life while also addressing projected moderate population growth needs. Watermain flushing, hydrant testing occurring through mid-October

City crews are conducting water main flushing and fire hydrant testing through mid-October. Flushing occurs between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Residents should watch for any discoloration or sediment in their water. Although the process could result in rusty-colored water, the water is safe to consume and the color usually clears up in a few hours.

Seven win Bright Spot awards; Oct. 8 next nomination deadline

Seven garden "bright spots" in the city have been recognized by the East Peoria Beautification Commission with Paul Peterson Bright Spot Awards. Oct. 8 is the nomination deadline for the final round of awards for the season.

Firefighter Memorial Service set for Oct. 14

The memory of the four East Peoria firefighters who have died in the line of duty over the years will be celebrated during the 32nd Annual Firefighter Memorial Service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Festival Building, 2200 E. Washington St. The service is open to the public and will feature music, an antique fire truck, refreshments, and presentation of the Fire Department Employee of the Year Award.

Open burning season Oct. 15-Nov. 30

Open burning of dry yard waste is allowed in East Peoria Oct. 15 through Nov. 30. Only dry leaves and other landscape waste may be burned to produce as little smoke as possible. There are other rules about open burning as well.

Beat the Beep!

The Beat the Beep campaign’s purpose is to alert residents that their CO alarms may be reaching the end of their lifecycles and should be replaced before the beeps indicating end of life. Replacing the alarm will provide residents with continuous protection against possible CO poisoning and reduce the number of false alarms received by the fire department.
