Government/Departments Police Department
The East Peoria Police Department is the most visible of all the city departments. Police officers work round the clock to keep neighborhoods and business districts safe. They maintain order and enforce laws and city ordinances. Among the goals of the police department, preserving life and ensuring safety to the residents of the community, as well as promoting awareness to prevent crime is of the top priority. The department services 22 square miles, and a population of 23,100.
The East Peoria Police Department consists of the uniformed patrol division, investigations division, communications, and command staff. From these divisions the department has bicycle officers, two tactical officers belonging to the Central Illinois Emergency Response Team (CIERT), the ILEAS statewide tactical response team, truck enforcement officers, and an Honor Guard. There are currently two officers tasked out to specialized units, one with the Multi County Enforcement Group, and one with the Central Illinois Cybercrimes Unit with the FBI.
