Wheeled toters replacing current recycling bins; pre-orders being accepted

East Peoria residents who recycle can now pre-order the city’s new wheeled recycling toter.

East Peoria’s recycling program is voluntary. The only mandatory part of the program is the purchase of the new toter before July of 2019. The 96-gallon toters cost $60 and have bright blue lids to signal they contain material for recycling. When the toters come in, East Peoria Public Works employees will deliver them to the residents who placed pre-orders.

City having one clean-up week in September

Residents who have junk items and furniture to dispose of will need to wait until September if they want East Peoria Public Works crews to pick up the material. East Peoria will be having only one clean-up week this year, Sept. 10-14.

Going to one clean-up week will help with city budget concerns as well as improve the productivity of the Public Works Department streets employees, who will be able to focus on street projects instead of spending time picking up clean-up mater... Full Story

East Peoria residents who recycle can download a calendar and route list to see when their items will be picked up once the schedule changes to every other week starting July 9, 2018. Only the recycling schedule is changing. Garbage will continue to be picked up every week.

Open burning allowed April 1-30

Residents are allowed to burn dry leaves and other landscape waste April 1 through 30. Material must be dry to produce as little smoke as possible. The Beat the Beep campaign’s purpose is to alert residents that their CO alarms may be reaching the end of their lifecycles and should be replaced before the beeps indicating end of life. Replacing the alarm will provide residents with continuous protection against possible CO poisoning and reduce the number of false alarms received by the fire department.
