Help put lights on FOL floats

Volunteers are needed to help put lights on Festival of Lights parade floats. Work is done at the Festival Building, 2200 E. Washington St., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Volunteer groups can also come by appointment from 5-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays. Groups can have potlucks if desired. To volunteer, call John Broshears at (309) 427-7665 or send an e-mail to folepi@cityofeastpeoria.com.

Lane closure set for I-74 Murry Baker Bridge

Motorists will encounter daytime individual lane closures on Interstate 74 at the Murray Baker Bridge over the Illinois River Monday, Oct. 27 through Saturday, Nov. 1, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The lane closures are necessary for crews to complete a routine inspection of the bridge. Lane closures will begin in the eastbound direction, then will switch to the westbound direction mid-week and will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily. Occasional lane closures are also possible on Washington Street in Peoria and Bass Pro Drive in East Peoria during this time.

Trick-or-treat hours announced

Trick-or-treat hours on Halloween of 5-8 p.m. have been set by the East Peoria Police Department. All children should be back at their homes by 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Entry forms available for FOLEPI River Trail Classic

For those "on the run" this holiday season, entry forms are available for the 25th annual FOLEPI River Trail Classic, part of the East Peoria Festival of Lights. This event, on Saturday, Nov. 29, features a 4-mile competitive run and 2-mile non-competitive walk. Returning for the 2014 event are the FOLEPI River Trail Classic zip-front hooded sweatshirts.

Open burning allowed through Nov. 30

Open burning is allowed in East Peoria through Nov. 30. Only dry leaves, landscape waste and brush can be burned. Burning of any other items is prohibited. All materials must be dry to produce as little smoke as possible. Burning must occur during daylight hours.

Car seat checks Nov. 5

The East Peoria Fire Department will conduct free car seat checks from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Central Fire Station, 201 W. Washington St.
