Residents asked to fill out natural hazards survey

By filling out a short survey, area residents can help Central Illinois prepare for natural disasters. The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission is updating its Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan. The City of East Peoria is among 14 area jurisdictions participating in the planning process. The planning process is being funded with a grant from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.

Public Works operating from temporary office

During a modest remodeling project, the East Peoria Public Works administrative offices have been temporarily relocated to the Festival Building, 2200 E. Washington St., starting Jan. 29. The offices are expected to move back to the Public Works building April 1 or possibly earlier.

The remodeling project consists of painting and replacing worn flooring and stained ceiling tiles. The funds for the project were previously budgeted, and the work will be done in-house by the city's building maintenance workers.

Public Works hours at the Festival Building will remain unchanged, 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., and all phone numbers will remain the same. Those needing to visit Public Works for garbage toters should enter the Festival Building through the doors to the Eastlight Theatre box office.

Farmer's Market vendors sought

Vendors are sought for the 2018 East Peoria Farmer's Market, which will occur from 3 until 6 p.m. Fridays June 1 through Sept. 28 in The Levee District. Items need to be grown or created in Illinois, and crafts must be original items and not mass-produced.

City launches improved online utility payment site

Residents now have an additional way to pay city utility bills online through the new MyGovHub website. The site is available on both desktop computers and mobile devices. Through MyGovHub, residents and businesses can check on utility billing account activity; review billing, payment and usage history over the last two years; make online payments using a debit/credit card or electronic check, all at no additional charge; and enroll in paperless billing to be notified via email when the utility bill is due.

Service allows residents to report issues to city officials

The city has changed to a web-based service for residents to report items ranging from overhanging trees, storm drain problems, road repairs, private property issues and more. Still known as Access East Peoria, the web-based service provides residents an additional way to connect with city departments. The service previously was available both on the city’s website and as an app for iPhone and Android devices. The app has been discontinued, and the service is now available exclusively on the full version and mobile version of the city’s website. It is also accessible by clicking on the Contact Us button on the city’s Facebook page.

Beat the Beep!

The Beat the Beep campaign’s purpose is to alert residents that their CO alarms may be reaching the end of their lifecycles and should be replaced before the beeps indicating end of life. Replacing the alarm will provide residents with continuous protection against possible CO poisoning and reduce the number of false alarms received by the fire department.
