Parked floats causing temporary road closures

Portions of city streets will be temporarily closed due to the East Peoria Festival of Lights. Springfield Road will be closed to all traffic from its intersection with Taylor Street to North Main Street until 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20. Access will be open to the CVS Pharmacy and Long John Silver’s/A&W restaurants located at Springfield Road and North Main Street. The closure will be necessary for the parking of Parade of Lights floats in preparation of moving them to the Folepi’s Winter Wonderland drive-through display.

2
City observing holiday schedule

East Peoria City Hall will close at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, and all City of East Peoria offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 23 and 24, for the Thanksgiving holiday. There will be no garbage and recycling collection on Thursday, Nov. 23. Collection will resume one day behind schedule on Friday, Nov. 24 and end on Saturday, Nov. 25. Service allows residents to report issues to city officials

The city has changed to a web-based service for residents to report items ranging from overhanging trees, storm drain problems, road repairs, private property issues and more. Still known as Access East Peoria, the web-based service provides residents an additional way to connect with city departments. The service previously was available both on the city’s website and as an app for iPhone and Android devices. The app has been discontinued, and the service is now available exclusively on the full version and mobile version of the city’s website. It is also accessible by clicking on the Contact Us button on the city’s Facebook page.

Beat the Beep!

The Beat the Beep campaign’s purpose is to alert residents that their CO alarms may be reaching the end of their lifecycles and should be replaced before the beeps indicating end of life. Replacing the alarm will provide residents with continuous protection against possible CO poisoning and reduce the number of false alarms received by the fire department.
