Senior citizens who meet age and income guidelines can obtain coupons to use at farmer’s markets, including the East Peoria Farmer’s Market, through a program offered by the Central Illinois Agency on Aging.

Those eligible for the coupons must be age 60 before Oct. 31. Annual income guidelines are $22,311 or less for an individual and $30,044 or less for a couple.

Persons under age 60 and those who are disabled are not eligible for the program.

The coupons will be available on a first come, first served basis on the following schedule:

  • 11 a.m.-3 p.m. July 6 and July 7 at the Peoria Public Library, 107 N.E. Monroe, Peoria.
  • 9 a.m. to noon July 10 at the Central Illinois Agency on Aging office, 700 Hamilton Blvd., Peoria.

If an eligible senior citizen cannot attend one of the pickup dates in person, they can send another person to pick up the coupons on their behalf. That person must have a letter from the senior citizen saying they are authorizing the person to pick up the coupons. The person must have a photo ID and the senior citizen’s photo ID, and the senior’s ID must include a birth date.

The coupons are valued at $3 each and are good for produce, but can be used at other vendor booths as long as the vendor will accept them. The majority of the East Peoria Farmer’s Market vendors will accept the coupons. Up to seven coupons per person are available, subject to change.
