Residents may use a maximum of three (3) toters.
Landscape waste or building materials are not accepted.
Cardboard boxes must be broken down and large boxes must be cut into halves or fourths and placed next to recycling bin(s). They cannot be used as a receptacle.
Recyclables can be co-mingled.
Wheeled toters replacing current recycling bins
East Peoria’s recycling program is voluntary. The only mandatory part of the program is the purchase of the new toter before July 1, 2019. The 96-gallon toters cost $60 and have bright blue lids to signal they contain material for recycling.
Those who have several garbage toters have the option of painting a toter lid blue, thus making it a recycling toter and eliminating the need to order one. The paint we recommend is Rust-oleum Gloss Brilliant Blue spray paint.
The new recycling toters replace the 18-gallon red or blue recycling bins. Glass is accepted for recycling in the new toter.
Once they have received their new 96-gallon recycling toter, residents can use the small bins for storing their recycling material or keep them for personal use.
East Peoria Green Team is encouraging East Peoria residents to consider returning their old red/blue recycle bins to Public Works. The bins will be donated to ICC to use in their dorms and at other sites on campus. We also are hoping that District 86 will take as many as the teachers and principals can use. As you can imagine we could potentially reuse many bins. All you need to do is bring them empty and clean to Public Works at 2232 E. Washington St. From there they will be dispersed as requested by the East Peoria Green Team.
