Public Hearing set for sanitary sewer system upgrade project

An open house public hearing on the city's sanitary sewer system upgrade project will occur from 4-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 in the conference room at the Civic Complex, 401 W. Washington St. The public hearing will serve as an open forum for the public and ratepayers to comment on the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Project Summary and Preliminary Environmental Impacts Determination (PEID). Nominating papers for City Council election available at City Hall

Nominating petitions and supporting documents for the April 2, 2019 consolidated election are available at the City Clerk's Office at East Peoria City Hall, 401 W. Washington St. Nominating petitions can be circulated starting Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Positions open in the election are mayor and four city commissioner seats. All the positions are for four-year terms. The nominating petitions and documents will be available through Dec. 17.

Register for the Moms Who Care Walk

Registration is under way for the Moms Who Care Walk, sponsored in part by the City of East Peoria and East Peoria Chamber of Commerce. The one-mile, two-mile and three-mile walks take place Sept. 29 on the Camp Street Trail, and proceeds benefit area students in need. The funds raised are used to provide hygiene products, clothing, school supplies and other necessities.

Seven win Bright Spot awards; Oct. 8 next nomination deadline

Seven garden "bright spots" in the city have been recognized by the East Peoria Beautification Commission with Paul Peterson Bright Spot Awards. Oct. 8 is the nomination deadline for the final round of awards for the season.

Drop box installed for expired, unwanted medications

Residents can safely dispose of unwanted or expired medications in the drug drop box in front of the Public Safety Building, 201 W. Washington St. The box is a re-purposed mailbox and it is monitored by cameras. Medicines placed in the box will be incinerated.

Recycling collection now every other week; order your new toter now

East Peoria residents who recycle can download a calendar and route list to see when their items will be picked up now that the every-other-week recycling collection schedule is in effect. Only the recycling schedule has changed. Garbage will continue to be picked up every week.

Recyclers should now order their new 96-gallon blue lid recycling toter, which replaces the small red and blue bins and must be in use by July of 2019. Full Story

Fall Flower Bulb Sale set for Oct. 6

East Peoria residents can choose from a variety of flower bulbs at the Beautification Commission's Fall Flower Bulb Sale. The sale occurs from 9 a.m.-noon (earlier if sold out) at the Civic Complex Atrium, 401 W. Washington St.

Fruits, veggies, home décor and more - the 7th annual East Peoria Farmer's Market is now open every Friday from3-6 p.m. through Sept. 28 in The Levee District.

Car seat checks set for Oct. 3

The East Peoria Fire Department will offer free car seat checks from 1 until 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 at the Central Fire Station, 201 W. Washington St. This service allows parents and childcare providers the opportunity to make sure car seats are installed correctly in their vehicles.

Service allows residents to report issues to city officials

The city has changed to a web-based service for residents to report items ranging from overhanging trees, storm drain problems, road repairs, private property issues and more. Still known as Access East Peoria, the web-based service provides residents an additional way to connect with city departments. Wind turbine transport ending Sept. 21

Transport of large wind turbine parts through the city in the early morning hours will be finished tonight. The transport has been occurring all summer. This will be the last night of temporary road closures in the very early morning hours.
