Peoria Riverfront Museum having day for East Peorians

Here's a great deal for family day or date night! The Peoria Riverfront Museum in downtown Peoria is offering free admission to all East Peoria residents from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, June 1. ID will be required.

All exhibits and the daytime planetarium shows will be free with ID to EP residents. Concession and museum store purchases will be 10% off, and tickets will be available for "SOLO: A Star Wars Story" in the Giant Screen Theater.

City observing holiday schedule

It's the first holiday weekend of summer! East Peoria City Hall will close at 2 p.m. today, May 25, for the Memorial Day holiday.

All city offices will be closed Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day. There will be no garbage and recycling collection Monday. Collection will start Tuesday, May 29, and run one day behind the remainder of the week, ending Saturday, June 2.

Farmer's Market opens June 1

Fruits, veggies, home décor and more - the 7th annual East Peoria Farmer's Market opens for the season on Friday, June 1, and runs 3-6 p.m. every Friday through Sept. 28 in The Levee District. To date 30 vendors will be participating, and there's still time for more vendors to sign up.

Recycling collection to be every other week starting July 9

East Peoria residents who recycle can download a calendar and route list to see when their items will be picked up once the schedule changes to every other week starting July 9, 2018. Only the recycling schedule is changing. Garbage will continue to be picked up every week.

Wheeled toters replacing current recycling bins; pre-orders being accepted

East Peoria residents who recycle can now pre-order the city’s new wheeled recycling toter.

East Peoria’s recycling program is voluntary. The only mandatory part of the program is the purchase of the new toter before July of 2019. The 96-gallon toters cost $60 and have bright blue lids to signal they contain material for recycling. When the toters come in, East Peoria Public Works employees will deliver them to the residents who placed pre-orders.

Service allows residents to report issues to city officials

The city has changed to a web-based service for residents to report items ranging from overhanging trees, storm drain problems, road repairs, private property issues and more. Still known as Access East Peoria, the web-based service provides residents an additional way to connect with city departments. Car seat checks set for June 6

The East Peoria Fire Department will offer free car seat checks from 1 until 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 6 at the Central Fire Station, 201 W. Washington St. This service allows parents and childcare providers the opportunity to make sure car seats are installed correctly in their vehicles.
