Fire Department Employee of the Year 2009

Firefighter-paramedic Chris Rieker (center, with plaque) is the Fire Department Employee of the Year 2009. Pictured presenting Rieker with his award are (from left) East Peoria Mayor Dave Mingus, Public Safety City Commissioner Gary Densberger, and Fire Chief William Darin.
The award, presented since 1999, honors an individual for outstanding service to the Fire Department, often going above and beyond the scope of their daily assignments.
Among the reasons for Rieker's selection is his work in upgrading the EPFD's computer system, including building and maintaining the computers. In addition, Rieker has been instrumental in the implementation of specialized fire department software and training the department personnel in its use.
Rieker has been a member of the East Peoria Fire Department since February 2000.
Fire Department designated completely ALS
Residents needing East Peoria firefighters' help are now guaranteed to receive 100 percent paramedic services, a designation unique to Central Illinois. The Peoria Area Emergency Medical Services office and the Illinois Department of Public Health both authorized the EPFD to be designated entirely as an Advanced Life Support department. The EPFD is one of the few fire departments south of Interstate 80 to provide 100 percent fire-based paramedic service.
