[ARCHIVED] Car Seat Checks Resuming July 1

Mom and firefighters checking baby's car seat

The popular monthly car seat check events will resume operation starting in July, following social distancing guidelines.

The East Peoria Fire Department’s free car seat check event will occur from 1 until 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 1 at the fire department’s Central Station, 201 W Washington Street. The event gives parents and child caregivers the opportunity to make sure car seats are properly installed in vehicles. The program normally occurs the first Wednesday of the month but had been temporarily suspended the past few months due to COVID-19 concerns.

Nationally trained child passenger safety technicians will be available to educate caregivers on proper installation of child restraints and best practice guidelines. All technicians and those receiving the education and installation help must wear masks at all times. The attendees should bring only the necessary people to the car seat check. Cars will be three parking spaces apart, well more than the recommended 6-foot social distancing guidance.
