Area residents wanting to view Independence Day fireworks displays are encouraged by East Peoria city officials to attend publicly-sanctioned displays in neighboring communities rather than gathering on the east riverfront to try watching a Peoria business’ private show.
The July 4 display being launched in Peoria near Water Street will have limited viewing from the East Peoria riverfront and adjacent areas. In addition, there will be no food concessions or porta-potties along the East Peoria riverfront or in RiverFront Park. The private fireworks display, a fundraiser for a youth organization, is set to last about 20 minutes. However, city officials want residents to understand that this private display will not be the size of the postponed UnityPoint Health Red, White and Boom display. The cost of all public resources to be utilized during this event will be billed by the City of East Peoria directly to the Peoria business owner.
Public fireworks displays are occurring July 3 in Spring Bay and July 4 in Chillicothe, Eureka, Morton, and Pekin.
Due to the private Peoria display, the Bob Michel Bridge will be closed to all traffic from 9 until 10 p.m. July 4. Motorists will need to use alternate routes.
