[ARCHIVED] Christmas Tree Disposal Options

Drawing of Christmas tree with bare branches

Live Christmas trees can be included with a resident’s regular garbage picked up by the East Peoria Public Works Department, provided some requirements are met first. The tree must be cut up and placed inside the garbage toter. All lights, tinsel and decorations must be removed. Also, trees should not be wrapped in any type of bag.

Public Works crews will not pick up trees that are in bags or not cut up and inside the toter.

Trees will be picked up through January 11. For more information, call Public Works at 309-698-4716.

For those wanting to recycle, the Tazewell County Health Department is accepting Christmas trees through January 12 on the Illinois Central College East Campus near the truck driver training area. The trees will be mulched.

The health department requires all lights, tinsel and decorations be removed and the trees should not be wrapped in bags. For more information, call 309-925-5511, ext. 270.
