Steven Roegge Named New EP Police Chief

Steven M. Roegge has been selected to lead the East Peoria Police Department as its next chief, succeeding Chief Dick Ganschow who will be retiring on February 28.

Roegge’s first day as East Peoria Police Chief will be March 1.

Roegge is a 31-year member of the Peoria Police Department and has held the rank of lieutenant since 2008. He is a member of the School Safety Working Group of the Illinois Terrorism Task Force which is responsible for reviewing and implementing best practices for the safety of students, teachers and administrators. He is also a member of the Heart of Illinois Critical Incident Stress Management Team which responds to an 18-county area assisting and debriefing first responders after critical incidents.

His work with the Peoria Police Department incudes being the lieutenant of the training unit, representing the department with the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarms System, developing active shooter trainings, serving as K9 sergeant supervising and training officers and K9s, and working as a vice and narcotics investigator.

“I look forward to the opportunity to serve in this leadership role,” Roegge said. “I am confident that working with the officers, city council and community we can continue to move the department forward as we serve the citizens of East Peoria.”

Roegge has a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice science from Illinois State University, and received certifications in supervision of police personnel and staff and command executive training from Northwestern University Center for Public Safety.
